Education & Opportunities at CCAT

The world of transportation is undergoing its most significant transformation in over a century, driven by the rapid advancements in Connected and Automated Vehicle (CAV) technologies. At the Center for Connected and Automated Transportation (CCAT), we understand that education and workforce development are crucial to leading this change. There is a growing need for both innovative engineers and skilled technicians to design, implement, and manage these future systems.

The Connected and Automated Transportation Certificate Program equips students to become leaders in the evolving field of connected and automated vehicles (CAVs). This program, consisting of five expert-led modules, provides interdisciplinary knowledge on the legal, technical, and control aspects of CAVs. It was initiated by Professor Neda Masoud of the University of Michigan to address educational needs in transportation engineering, stemming from a 2022 workshop with CAV experts.

The University of Minnesota, a valued CCAT partner, is offering a unique opportunity to high school students through their 2025 CAV Career Pathways Camp. This free, week-long summer day camp immerses students in connected and automated vehicle (CAV) technology, featuring hands-on activities, industry field trips, and insights from UMN researchers, paving the way for the next generation of innovators.
