Professor of Civil Engineering – Purdue University
Dr. Abbas has over 20 years of experience in leading teams and managing projects to solve Transportation problems in the areas of Transportation System Management and Control, Driver Behavior, Traffic Flow Theory, and Traffic Simulation/Optimization. His key expertise areas include Transportation Operations, ITS Planning and Evaluation, Transportation Modeling, Data Analytics, and System Optimization. Dr. Abbas has wide experience, including the development of synthesis studies, conducting surveys and interviews at a national scale to benchmark practices and policies, and experience with traffic signal systems, development, and application of data collection approaches and data sets that provide information about Driver Behavior and Vehicle dynamics, including but not limited to the following: Naturalistic Driving Data Study speed data including vehicle, driver and environment inputs, Connected Vehicle Data, Video automated data reduction results, On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) data sets, and Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures.
