Biography

Research Scientist in the Traffic Operations and Safety Laboratory – University of Wisconsin-Madison

Dr. Boris Claros is a Research Scientist in the TOPS lab with ample experience in transportation safety modeling, winter maintenance, and naturalistic studies. He obtained his master’s and doctorate in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri – Columbia. He has extensive work with data collection and processing for development of calibration factors, calibration functions, crash modifications factors (CMFs), and crash prediction models (SPFs). His research in winter maintenance focuses on salt brine applications and field performance of roadway operations with vehicular speed and pavement friction. He has also worked on bicycle instrumentations for naturalistic data collection. His work has contributed to evaluate vehicle and bicycle interactions by measuring lateral passing distances and vehicle speeds to assess the impact of operational and roadway features on bicycle safety. He recently completed evaluating the impact of centerline and shoulder rumble strips on bicyclist safety on high- speed rural two-lane roads as part of NCHRP 17-106.
