Kumares Sinha

Biography

Edgar B. and Hedwig M. Olson Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering – Purdue University

Dr. Sinha (Ph.D. 1968, University of Connecticut) is a former director of the Joint Transportation Research Program of Purdue University and Indiana DOT. He has served in leadership roles in many professional societies including ASCE, TRB, IRF, ARTBA, and CUTC. He has been a PI or co-PI of research projects funded by agencies including USDOT, National Academies, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and NSF. Dr. Sinha’s work has been influential in the practice, and he has been a consultant for many organizations including the World Bank. He served on several federal advisory panels such as the Executive Committee of the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the Blue Ribbon Panel of Experts for the US National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission, and the Oversight Committee of the Strategic Highway Program. Dr. Sinha is a Member of the National Academy of Engineering.
