Research: Intelligent Sidewalk De-Icing and Pre-Treatment with Connected Campus Maintenance Vehicles

Abstract: This project will develop an automated system for precision application of de-icing chemicals on campus and urban sidewalks. This will reduce environmental impact and infrastructure aging and increase cost savings.

Speaker Bio:
Dr. Darcy Bullock is the Lyles Family Professor of Civil Engineering at Purdue University and serves as the director of the Joint Transportation Research Program (JTRP). Bullock is a Registered Professional Engineer in Indiana and has 25 years of experience in the industry working closely with state agencies, USDOT, and private sector partners. Bullock’s teaching, research and consulting interests have been in the general area of transportation systems and implementation of advanced technology. He received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Vermont, and a M.S. and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. The Joint Transportation Research Program (JTRP) was established in 1937. JTRP facilitates collaboration between the Indiana Department of Transportation, higher education institutions and industry to implement innovations that result in continuous improvement in the planning, design, construction, operation, management and economic efficiency of the Indiana transportation infrastructure.
